零戦搭乗員会ご苦労様でした。詳しい説明をしたいので英語で書きます。

In the spring of 1939, Jiro Horikoshi's Zero-sen fighter aircraft took to
the air for the first time.  Ever since that day, the Zero-sen has been more
than an excellent fighter aircraft, it has been a symbol of Japan.  Even
today, after 63 years since it's first flight into the skies above Gifu-ken,
the aircraft and its pilots captivate the hearts and minds of aviation
enthusiasts everywhere all over the world.

Only a few airplanes remain now of the thousands that were produced during
WWII, and only a few pilots are remaining to tell the story of the history
of the airplane and their lives. These stories are important to all of us
who love aviation.  They are the true and first hand accounts of a struggle
that most people today cannot understand and cannot believe.  A time when
men of all nations were swept into war.  Your stories are important to the
generations of now and the generations to come.

I encourage each of you to write your stories down and capture the events of
your lives before they are gone.  For aviation enthusiasts and historians
for generations to come, thank you for your endless efforts to remember,
preserve and pass on the legend of the Zero-sen and the men of that flew
them.

[Mikeからのメッセージ]

1939年の春、堀越二郎さんの零式艦上戦闘機が初めて空に飛び立ちました。それ以
来、零戦は精鋭な戦闘機であるのはさる事ながら、日本のシンボルとなりました。岐
阜県の上空を舞い飛んでから63年たった今現在も、その搭乗員達は世界中の航空愛好
家の思いをしっかりと掴み続けています。

第二次世界大戦中、何千と生産された零戦も、現在残っているのはわずか数えるほど
となりました。そして、その零戦と当時の様子を語れるパイロットの方達も数少なく
なっています。これらの話が語り継がれるのは、我々飛行機を愛するものにとって非
常に有り難く、大切な事でもあります。世界中の人々が戦争の渦に飲み込まれた、怒
涛の時代の真実、証言。おそらく殆どの現代人が理解できず、信じる事のできない真
実です。皆さんのお話は、現在、そして次の世代の人達にとって大変貴重なものなの
です。

皆さんそれぞれが、今、自分の歴史を書き留め、人生で起こった出来事を捕らえられ
る事を心から願ってやみません。零戦とその搭乗員の栄光を思い、守り、そして受け
継がれるのに、絶え間ない努力を費やされた方達に、航空愛好家、歴史愛好家、次の
世代を代表して感謝の気持ちを述べさせて頂きます。有難うございました。
